The problem stems from lotus, for some unknown reason, only allowing the install to install what ever the previous version was. So if you installed a full client version on a pc but only used the client, but not designer or admin on that user, then you MUST install with the full client download and just check off what you are not installing.
On the other hand if you just installed the fat client from a fat client install in r7 you may need to uninstall it to get the new client to install IF youa re also in need of designer and administrator clients.
Have now done a number of upgrades and the easiest way to resolve the issue is to just install from the full (all 3) client download.
If you tried and it crashed you may get stuck and have to uninstall, but first try the proper download and then let it "reconfigure" it.
